Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center
Owls Creek Spring Trash & Fish Waterway Clean Up!

March 28, 2020

POSTPONED

Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, the City of Virginia Beach will be closing all recreation centers, libraries and the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center for at least the next two weeks to support efforts to slow or mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Staff should report as usual. Parks will remain open for now, although all events in the parks are cancelled and we encourage parents and others to avoid large gatherings in the parks. "Social distancing is still one of the best ways we have to combat the spread of the virus," said Dr. Demetria Lindsay with the Virginia Beach Health Department. "If you are ill with symptoms of COVID-19, contact your health provider."

Trash and debris that finds its way into the ocean can travel long distances causing discarded plastics to suffocate marine animals and fish. Birds can easily entangle themselves in six pack plastic rings and feed micro plastics and other ocean waste to their young. While the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Program works to save these entangled animals, the best solution is prevention

To help mitigate marine debris the Virginia Aquarium is partnering with iAngler Tournament Systems and the Tidewater Kayak Anglers Association for a cleanup of Owls Creek and surrounding waterways. Volunteers will check-in at the registration tent located in Virginia Aquarium’s parking lot near Owls Creek Boat Ramp. Humans, animals, and plants - we all need unpolluted water to survive. Register to join us on Saturday, March 28, 2020; 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Launch at:
Owls Creek Boat Ramp
1398 General Booth Blvd
Virginia Beach, Virginia 23451
