We wanted to inform you of a significant update to our Reel Rewards program. Due to a noticeable decline in fish drop-offs over the past month, we have decided to cancel the remaining scheduled drop-off dates. It's important to note we are only changing the drop-off process, the program is not ending.

Moving forward, if you have fish to contribute, please schedule a drop-off appointment directly with me. You can reach me at christien@ejji.org or 732-789-9477. This change will help us better manage our resources and ensure a smoother process for all participants.

Please note that we will continue to accept fish until our Reel Rewards conclusion event on September 28, 2024. More information about the September 28th event will be available soon. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Reel Rewards drop off canceled due to severe thunderstorms today.

Good Afternoon All,

After careful consideration, we've made some updates to our schedule. Starting immediately, we will exclusively operate on Saturdays. Furthermore, we've lifted the weekly cap for the program duration, allowing you to drop off as many fish as you catch within the bounty boundary.

As a result, our drop-off for 7/17/2024 is canceled. However, mark your calendars for a special event on Saturday, July 20th, from 3 pm to 6 pm. You're welcome to drop off your fish at this event, so please join us!

Join us for a Special Reel Rewards Event on July 20 (Saturday) from 3-6PM at Middle Branch Park! This event is free and open to the public. There will be free snacks and swag giveaways. Stop by to learn about the Chesapeake Bay, the Reel Rewards Invasive Fish Bounty Program, and share your opinions about the environment. We will also be doing angler surveys. All those who take a survey will receive a one-time $10 virtual visa gift card for supporting our research!

This event is done in partnership with the Environmental Justice Journalism Initiative (EJJI), Integration and Application Network at University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (IAN-UMCES), the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center - Chesapeake Bay Water Watch (SERC-CWW), the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF).

This project is funded by the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

With the intense heat in combination with incoming severe thunderstorms we are going to be canceling our 7/10 drop off today.

Additionally, we will no longer be holding drop offs at trailhead 9, the locations will be updated on all calendars and schedules shortly.

We will also be adding an hour to our drop off Saturday 7/13 (4pm-7pm) to help with all of the cancelations recently.

Hello Reel Rewards Anglers,

Thank you all for you participation in the Reel Rewards Program! Collectively, we have helped remove over 300 invasive fish from the Middle Branch Harbor. Due to your hard work, we are helping restore Baltimore's waters and helping native fish populations. This is the first year, or the pilot year, of the Reel Rewards Program and we at EJJI are looking for more grants to help keep this program running in the future.

As a pilot program, we have limited funding that has been allocated to last us to September 2024. To ensure that all anglers have access to this program, we have implemented an individual catch limit of a maximum of 15 fish per week per angler. Any fish logged before 6/10/24 will not be affected by the catch limit.

EJJI is interested in continuing to support the angler community, especially those who have helped make the program a success. If you are an angler interested in offering charters or other angler community services, please reach out to EJJI's Environmental Science Programs Manager, Veronica Lucchese (veronica@ejji.org). We would love to partner with and support the local angling community so please reach out!
