The Hogan Law Firm is pleased to announce that HPH Hospice will again be the beneficiary of the 12th Annual Charitable Fishing Tournament.

It is our honor to dedicate this 12th Annual Fishing Tournament in memory of Dwight Kerr with Chapters Health System, who passed away suddenly in January 2021, for his dedication to Chapters Health and our charity fishing tournament each year. He was a great support and assistance in making our tournament a success. He will be greatly missed.

Since 1984, HPH Hospice has offered quality, compassionate hospice care to everyone in Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties. In February 2015, the organization became an affiliate of Chapters Health System that allowed access to a greater depth of clinical expertise and resources.

HPH Hospice patients receive services wherever they call home-in a primary residence, assisted living facility, skilled nursing home, hospice care center or hospital. And as a not-for-profit provider, HPH Hospice never denies services to anyone due to financial hardship.

The Hogan Law Firm believes in HPH Hospice and its mission, and feels that the organization is worthy of benefiting from this charitable event. The past ten tournaments have raised over $200,000 for HPH Hospice. We hope you will consider the potential sponsorship opportunities and join us in support of HPH Hospice.

OFFICIAL RULES

Have Fun: This is the 12th Annual Fishing Tournament put on by the Hogan Law Firm to benefit Hernando Pasco Hospice. We want everyone to catch a lot of fish and enjoy a day of fishing with friends, new friends and family!

Tournament Schedule: This year’s Tournament will take place on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. (“Cast-Off”) to 3:00 p.m. (“Measure-In”). Any fish caught after 3:00 pm will not be considered for any prize. Prior to the actual fishing tournament, there will be a captain’s dinner at Anderson Snow Park Pavilion on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 6:00 pm.

Catch & Release Tournament: Although this is a catch and release tournament, anglers may keep any legal fish. Measuring any catch will be done through the “ianglertournament” app which can be downloaded on any smart phone. When you log into this app scroll down to the tournament date (May 15, 2021) with our tournament information in it and click on “view.” Click on the bell with the number “2” above it. Then go to “Logging Your Catch” instructional video. Anglers are responsible to review the use of the app before participating in the tournament. At Check-in, registered boats will be provided a Hogan Law Firm uniform, measuring stick for use in the tournament.

Abide by the Laws: Captains and anglers participating in The Hogan Law Firm Charity Fishing Tournament (“Tournament”) are responsible for complying with Hernando County, State of Florida and United States laws and regulations concerning the concurrent operation of watercraft and the consumption and/or possession of alcoholic beverages. Captains and anglers are individually responsible for familiarizing themselves with all applicable laws prior to the tournament and shall comply with those laws. These laws include those related to maintaining participating boats in a manner consistent with all U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission regulations, as well as any other local, state or federal regulations that may apply.

Amendments: The statement and rules contained herein may be modified or amended by additional verbal instruction and/or printed matter distributed by the Tournament Committee before the official start time.

Check-in: Check- in is mandatory for all captains and anglers.

Disqualification: This is a charity event and integrity of all participants is expected. Transferring any fish from one boat to another will be grounds for disqualification for any prize. Any angler found to be in violation of any tournament rules and regulations may be subject to disqualification from the tournament. Any decision to disqualify any Tournament participant(s) shall be made at the sole and absolute discretion of the Tournament Committee. All decisions of the Tournament Committee shall be considered final.

Entrants: The Tournament Committee has the right to refuse any entry. Each person must be a paid entrant of the official Tournament and abide by all Tournament rules and regulations.

Fish: As of the date of the Captain’s Dinner preceding the Tournament, eligible fish will include, if in season, and of sufficient legal size: grouper (red or gag), mangrove snapper, red snapper, black drum, black sea bass, pompano, spotted seatrout, tripletail, cobia, mackerel, kingfish, redfish, snook, and sheep head. Prior to the Tournament, captains and anglers are individually responsible for reviewing state and federal guidelines concerning which species are in season and what size and number of fish of a given species may be legally retained, as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission routinely changes applicable regulations.

Fishing Rules: All fish must be caught and measured-in on the date of and during the official times listed for the Tournament. All tournament fish must be caught on rod and reel. No hand lines or electric reels may be used. Anglers may use artificial or live bait. Each angler may use only one rod at any one time. Other rods may be in the boat for substitute purposes. Bank fishing is not permissible.

Any state law or United States federal law that conflicts with these rules shall override these rules. Any illegal fish caught, measured and registered on the fishing app will disqualify the boat and all of its anglers from the Tournament.

Licenses: All Anglers must possess a valid Florida Salt Water Fishing License unless exempted by Florida Law under Chapter 379, Florida Statutes.

Prizes: Fishing awards will be announced at the dinner following the Tournament. Official fishing awards will be made after the end of the Protest Period.

Cash prizes will be awarded as follows:

First place team will be awarded $1,500.00 (Award Proceeds) and a trophy for the largest number of inches of fish caught, measured and recorded on the fishing app.

Second place team will be awarded $600.00 (Award Proceeds) and a trophy for the largest number of inches of fish caught, measured and recorded on the fishing app.

Third place team will be awarded $400.00 (Award Proceeds) and a trophy for the largest number of inches of fish caught, measured and recorded on the fishing app.

Fourth place will be awarded to the single angler $250 (Award Proceeds) for the largest redfish which was measured and recorded on the fishing app.

Fifth place will be awarded to the singled angler $250 (Award Proceeds) for the largest trout which was measured and recorded on the fishing app.

In the event of a tie, any fishing award shall be divided equally between the winning boat or angler.

In measuring the largest total number of inches, the number of anglers on a boat will divide the total number of inches for that team’s score. For Example, a boat with two anglers who caught fish measuring 200 inches will have a score of 100. A boat with four anglers who caught fish measuring 360 inches will have a score of 90. In comparing the two boats, boat number 1 with 2 anglers would win, having an average score of 100 inches vs. boat 2, which had an average score of 90 inches.

Understanding Risk: It is expressly understood that all participants in the Hogan Law Firm Charity Fishing Tournament have entered this event at their own discretion and solely at their own risk. By entering into and participating in this fishing tournament, all participants understand and release the Hogan Law Firm, Tournament Officials, committee members, sponsors, donors and all persons connected directly or indirectly with the operation of the Tournament from any liability for libel, slander, loss, damage, negligence, harm, injury or death suffered to any participant, vessel-owner, captain, entrant, sports-fisherman, their companions, boat captains, crew members, vessels and equipment which may occur during this Tournament. All anglers, participants and captains will fish and/or operate their vessels solely at their own risk.

Sportsmanship: All anglers will exercise good and courteous sportsmanship and conservation whether at the dock, underway or fishing. Violators will be subject to disqualification at the sole discretion of the Tournament Committee without refund and such disqualification may be considered for future events.

Weather Conditions: The Tournament Committee reserves the right to terminate the Tournament due to inclement weather or unsafe conditions at sea. If the Tournament is cancelled due to inclement weather or sea conditions, the event will be rescheduled or postponed to a future date. Angler entry fees are not refundable. Regardless of the Tournament Committee’s decision, it is the individual Captain’s responsibility to determine the suitability of his/her craft for the conditions.

Refunds: This is a charity event and No refunds will be given or substitutions allowed.
