Fish for Fowl
August 20 - 22, 2021

"Fish for Fowl" is a new tournament supporting the conservation efforts of the Waterfowl Festival! This fishing tournament is designed to raise awareness for the Festival while celebrating another part of the Eastern shore heritage! Please come help us support the Festival and its impact on the Eastern Shore way of life.

This is a NON KILL tournament - Catch/Photo/Release only

Target Species:

  • Rockfish (Stripped Bass)
  • Cobia
  • Spotted Seatrout
  • Blue Spanish Makerel
  • Redfish

Scoring Guidelines:

  • The system will score up to 5 fish per category. Fish are scored based on length (inches) and the longest single length will take first place, second longest single length will take second place, and so on.
  • Largest single fish for each category - Rockfish (Stripped Bass), Cobia, Spotted Seatrout, Blue Spanish Makerel, Redfish
  • Calcutta's - Largest Snakehead, White Perch, and Rockfish total inches

Prizes:

  • Rock Fish/ Stripped Bass – prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
  • White Perch - prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
  • Snake Head Fish - prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.

Calcutta categories:

  • Calcutta 1: Rockfish total inches out of 5 fish - $10
  • Calcutta 2: White Perch total inches out of 5 fish - $10
  • Calcutta 3: Snakehead total inches out of 5 fish - $10
  • Calcutta 4: Largest Single Mystery Fish - $10

Schedule:

  • Thursday, 8/19: A live facebook feed the night before the tournament on the Festival facebook page will be our Captains meeting
  • Friday, 8/20: Lines in the water at 5:30am
  • Sunday, 8/22: Lines out of the water by 3:00 pm

Fish for Fowl Fishing Tournament
RULES 2021

The intention of this tournament is to promote overall good fellowship, to promote awareness and raise funds for the Waterfowl Festival in Easton, MD

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. There is no limit to the number of anglers that can compete in this tournament. All anglers must be registered online with the tournament prior to 4am on August 20, 2021, unless the tournament chooses to extend the time. Each angler is required to complete the registration process and submit payment through the I-angler tournament app. Tournament representatives have the right to refuse entry into tournament to any angler.

  2. Each paid entry can fish 2 of the 3 days, between 8/20/21 – 8/22/2021. This will be based on the honor system, and if it is apparent that an angler virtually weighs in fish during more than 2 days, they will be disqualified
  3. Tournament entry fee is $50 per angler. If fewer than 10 anglers enter, the tournament reserves the right to cancel the tournament altogether, and all monies paid will be refunded in full.
  4. All entry fees and additional skill level entries must be received/paid no later than 4am on August 20, 2021, to be eligible for prizes and awards (unless the time is extended by the tournament).
  5. The tournament reserves the right to refuse entry to any Angler.
  6. Checkout and Check-In: No check out and check in is required because of the virtual nature of the tournament. On Sunday at 3:30pm, the awards party will be held at Docs in Oxford MD.
  7. Fishing Hours & Boundaries: Lines in at 5:00am 8/20/2021 and lines out at 3:00pm on 8/22/2021. Only fish caught between 5:00am 8/20/2021 to 3:00pm will be eligible for weigh-in. The boundaries for the tournament are any watershed and tributary of the Chesapeake Bay.
  8. Weather: The tournament does not provide a weather committee and it is an Angler’s choice tournament. There is no rain date for this tournament.
  9. All participants are responsible to determine that their craft is sea-worthy and are advised and encouraged to be familiar with the current local weather conditions and forecasts to determine if conditions permit the safety of the boat, crew, anglers, and guests to proceed to depart to sea and return in a safe and prudent manner.
  10. Cancellation Policy: There is no refund on paid entries.
  11. Federal and State Regulations: Participants are assumed to have all necessary permits, licenses and/or registrations required by law. However, it is not the responsibility of the tournament officials or directors to verify that all required permits, licenses and/or registrations are acquired by anglers participating in the tournament. Failure of a winning angler to have obtained any or all required permits, licenses and or registrations shall not be the basis for a protest to be filed under the General Tournament Rules, or for a fish to be disqualified.


    TOURNAMENT SPECIFICS

  12. Categories:

    • Rock Fish/ Stripped Bass – prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
    • White Perch - prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
    • Snake Head Fish - prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
  13. Anglers may score up to 5 fish per category. Fish are scored based on length (inches) and the longest single length will take first place, second longest single length will take second place, and so on.
  14. Calcutta categories measure total inches for Rock Fish, White Perch, and Snakehead.

    • Calcutta 1: Rockfish total inches out of 5 fish - $10
    • Calcutta 2: White Perch total inches out of 5 fish - $10
    • Calcutta 3: Snakehead total inches out of 5 fish - $10
    • Calcutta 4: Largest Single Mystery Fish - $10

    1. Any species single fish measured for total inches

  15. This is a NON kill tournament. Releasing the Fish back to the river is up to the discretion of the angler. The tournament officials will review all photos to verify validity and length of fish for determining place winners.
  16. Anglers may score up to 5 fish per category. Fish are scored based on length (inches) and the longest single length will take first place, second longest single length will take second place, and so on.
  17. There is a 10-inch minimum length for fish to be eligible.
  18. Length is rounded to the nearest quarter of an inch.
  19. Ties: Ties will be viewed by officials and if they can be broken by looking at how the fish were rounded, the officials will place the competitors accordingly. If there is still a tie, it will be broken by the best of three Rock/Paper/Scissors officiated by tournament officials.
  20. The tournament officials will review all photos to verify validity and length of fish for determining place winners.


    ELIGIBLE FISHING METHODS & AREA

  21. All fish must be caught:

    • Alive on a conventional rod and reel in a sporting manner.
    • An intentional foul hooked fish may not be scored. If a fish misses your lure and gets hooked in the side then so be it, but if you are sight fishing and foul hook it then that fish cannot be scored. A foul hooked fish is defined as a fish that does not have at least one hook in its mouth, and it must be released.
    • Anglers may not catch fish or weigh in fish that have been caged or confined in an area prior to the tournament.
    • All fish must be caught during the hours of competition.
    • No cast nets allowed, but anglers may use a landing net.
    • More than one rod can be in use at a time if it follows MD/VA fishing rules and regulations.
  22. This is a rod and reel tournament only. Power driven reels of any kind are prohibited. This includes motor, hydraulic, or electrically driven reels, and any device that gives the angler an unfair advantage. The tackle is unlimited, and live bait may be used.
  23. "Chesapeake area" means the area that includes the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries and the Potomac River tributaries. "Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries" means all tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries within Virginia, westward of the shoreward boundary of the Territorial Sea, excluding the Coastal area and the Potomac River tributaries.
  24. Mutilated/Injured Fish: IGFA rules shall apply. The decision of the tournament rules committee shall be final.

Waiver/Disclaimer: It is expressly understood that participants in this tournament enter at their own risk, and that the Fish for Fowl, Waterfowl Festival, Waterfowl Chesapeake, Tournament Directors, Officers, Tournament Sponsors, Committees and all other persons or entities connected directly or indirectly with the operation of said tournament, shall be exempt from any liability whatsoever for libel, slander, loss, damage, negligence, harm, injury or death suffered by any participant, entrant, vessel and equipment, companions and guests, boat captains, mates, crew members, which may occur during or in conjunction with this tournament. By completing the official tournament registration form and submitting payment, the boat owner, captain and mate(s), anglers and guests, consent that the tournament may use without payment or restriction, any photographs or video footage in which he or she may appear, for any purpose whatsoever including but not limited to resale, advertising, commercial or promotional material.
