The Smith Island Fishing Tournament, founded in 2022, celebrates the culture of this iconic Chesapeake Bay community. Proceeds benefit the Smith Island Cultural Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preserving its people, culture, and natural beauty.

**“Our museum and folklife center celebrates more than 350 years of continued maritime tradition.” The funds will help expand exhibits and the collections to preserve the unique history of Smith Island and the Chesapeake Bay, open to all visitors.***
Scoring Guidelines:
- It is a 3 day tournament.
- Prizes will be awarded for the top "Smith Island Slam", which is a 3 fish stringer of the following:
- Redfish
- Rockfish (striped bass for the non locals ;-)
- Spotted Seatrout (Speck)
Longest aggregate length of all 3 wins. All measurements are to be exhibited on the official tournament ruler through the iAngler app, and measured from mouth to the longest part of the tail.
Events:
Captain's Meeting: TBD. The meeting will be held on Smith Island at the Smith Island Cultural Center and on video conference. Link to be sent to all registrants in advance. Captains are required to attend in person or via video conference.
It is a 3 day tournament:
- Friday May 19: Lines in 6am, lines out 7pm
Saturday May 20: Lines in 6am, lines out 7pm
Sunday May 21: Lines in 6am, lines out 3pm
Awards Ceremony on Smith Island and via video conference: Sunday May 21 4:30pm
Competitor Welcome Reception (food, drinks, tour of the Cultural Center): Start 5pm Saturday, May 20....come meet the locals, the Tournament Team, and relax on Smith Island!
Prize structure:
50% of receipts go to prizes, 50% to go operational costs and charity.

Entry fees for both team and individual anglers also includes entry for 5 Calcuttas. Prizes will be awarded for each of the following:- Longest Redfish

We strongly encourage the next generation to fish! Kids 16 or under may register free by emailing their details (name, Captain's name, DOB) to sitournament@yahoo.com. The youth grand prize will go to the longest fish, sponsored by Sea Hawk Sports Center.

Smith Island Fishing Tournament Rules A tournament certified ruler will be issued to each team/angler. This will be mandatory for each photo submission.
Prior to each of the three fishing days there will be a different number or letter code that will be emailed to each team/angler that will be required to be included in each photo submission. If the code is not present in the picture the submission is not valid. (The code may be written on anglers hand or on a piece of paper)
Each fish must be of MARYLAND DNR legal minimum size to be submitted:
- Rockfish: 19”
- Red Drum: 18”
- Black Drum: 16”
- Speckled trout: 14”
- TBD: N/A
Eligible fishing grounds are not limited to anywhere in the Chesapeake Bay
All methods of fishing are permitted as long as it involves rod & reel
Ties will be settled by the first fish submitted to iAngler
SIFT will be centered around the Smith Island Stringer as well as each species’ Calcutta. Initial entry fees will automatically make the team/angler eligible to compete for the Smith Island Stringer. Calcuttas must be purchased separately for each species.
The Smith Island Stringer will be made up of three fish (1 rockfish, 1 speckled trout, 1 red drum). The team or angler with the longest combined inches of the 3 fish wins.

Smith Island Fishing Tournament ACCIDENT WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY FORM I HEREBY ASSUME ALL OF THE RISKS OF PARTICIPATING IN ANY/ALL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS EVENT, including by way of example and not limitation, any risks that may arise from negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons or entities being released, from dangerous or defective equipment or property owned, maintained, or controlled by them, or because of their possible liability without fault.
I certify that I am physically fit, have sufficiently prepared or trained for participation in this activity, and have not been advised to not participate by a qualified medical professional. I certify that there are no health-related reasons or problems which preclude my participation in this activity.
I acknowledge that this Accident Waiver and Release of Liability Form will be used by the event holders, sponsors, and organizers of the activity in which I may participate, and that it will govern my actions and responsibilities at said activity.
In consideration of my application and permitting me to participate in this activity, I hereby take action for myself, my executors, administrators, heirs, next of kin, successors, and assigns as follows:
(A) I WAIVE, RELEASE, AND DISCHARGE from any and all liability, including but not limited to, liability arising from the negligence or fault of the entities or persons released, for my death, disability, personal injury, property damage, property theft, or actions of any kind which may hereafter occur to me including my traveling to and from this activity, THE FOLLOWING ENTITIES OR PERSONS: Smith Island Fishing Tournament and/or its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, representatives, and agents, and the activity holders, sponsors, and volunteers;
(B) INDEMNIFY, HOLD HARMLESS, AND PROMISE NOT TO SUE the entities or persons mentioned in this paragraph from any and all liabilities or claims made as a result of participation in this activity, whether caused by the negligence of release or otherwise.
I acknowledge that the Smith Island Fishing Tournament and their directors, officers, volunteers, representatives, and agents are NOT responsible for the errors, omissions, acts, or failures to act of any party or entity conducting a specific activity on their behalf.
I acknowledge that this activity may involve a test of a person's physical and mental limits and carries with it the potential for death, serious injury, and property loss. The risks include, but are not limited to, those caused by changing water flow, conditions or current; collision with other participants, any portion of the interior of the craft, other water craft, manmade or natural objects, including overhanging, submerged and/or semi submerged trees, branches, rocks and boulders; cold weather and heat related injuries and illnesses including hyperthermia, frostbite, heat exhaustion, sun stroke, and dehydration; inclement weather, variances and extremes of wind, weather and temperature, the presence of insects and animals; sense of balance, physical coordination, ability to swim, and/or ability to follow directions; loss of control of the craft, collision, capsizing, and sinking of the craft which can result in wetness, injury, exposure to the elements, hypothermia and drowning; getting in and out of the craft; travel, including hiking, portaging and travel to and from the related and unrelated activities; (ix) the presence of wild animals, including marine life forms, unavailability of emergency aid services and emergency medical care. The undersigned acknowledges that Smith Island Fishing Tournament activities, as well as other foreseeable or unforeseeable factors or circumstances, may result in a RISK OF PROPERTY DAMAGE, BODILY INJURY, AND POSSIBLY DEATH. These risks are not only inherent to participants, but are also present for volunteers.
I hereby consent to receive medical treatment which may be deemed advisable in the event of injury, accident, and/or illness during this activity.
I understand while participating in this activity, I may be photographed. I agree to allow my photo, video, or film likeness to be used for any legitimate purpose by the activity holders, producers, sponsors, organizers, and assigns.
The Accident Waiver and Release of Liability Form shall be construed broadly to provide a release and waiver to the maximum extent permissible under applicable law.
I CERTIFY THAT I HAVE READ THIS DOCUMENT AND I FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENT. I AM AWARE THAT THIS IS A RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND A CONTRACT AND I SIGN IT OF MY OWN FREE WILL.
