Riptide Rendezvous - 2023

Riptide Rendezvous is a catch-and-release, artificial lure only, surf fishing tournament. It’s a non-profit fundraising event, organized by the Southwest Council of Fly Fishers International, with the support of Coastal Conservation Association California. All net proceeds go to the SWCFFI and CCAC, to help fund fishing outreach and conservation programs.

This is a “for-fun” event, with no fixed location, that runs for a month! Use the iAngler Tournament app to photograph and submit your catch. There are separate divisions for fly- and regular-tackle fishermen, with separate prize pools

A New Look for 2023

  • The legacy "One Fly" rules are no longer in effect for the Fly Fishing Division. Use your own flies, and there's no need to stop fishing if you lose your fly. Tie on a new one, and keep going!
  • Fish the surf anywhere it's legal from the northern end of Santa Barbara County to the Mexican border, and fish any time it's legal
  • Each angler will record and submit their own catches, using the iAngler Tournament app and a ruler or measuring tape. There is no limit on the number of fish submitted, but all fish must be released
  • Only fish submitted from May 27 thru June 23 will be considered for scoring
  • Only the following species will be counted for score: Perch (All Kinds), Corbina, Spot-fin Croaker, Yellow-Fin Croaker, Halibut, Shark or Ray, Striped Bass
  • For each Division, awards will be given in the following categories:
    • Longest fish submitted for each of the allowed species
    • Most total inches of allowed species caught in a day: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
  • In each Division, all contestants will be automatically entered into a random drawing for a rod/reel/line combo, regardless of whether or not they submit a catch
  • Awards and prizes will be handed out on June 24, at the Long Beach Casting Club (details to be announced). Winners must be present to claim their prize, otherwise it will be given to the next qualifying entry

Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be on sale at the June 24 event, exact menu TBD

  • All contestants, regardless of whether or not they submit a fish, are automatically entered into a drawing for a rod/reel/line combo in their division
  • All winners must be present at the awards event on June 24, or their prize will be given to the next qualifying entry.
