The Angling Women Plishing Tournament to support SC Wildlife Federation will be a tournament to help engage anglers to enjoy fishing while also helping to clean up the environment. "Plishing" is a combination of the Swedish term "plocka upp" which means "picking up" and "fishing". The term was originally "Plogging" in Sweden (picking up litter + jogging) and spread to "Plirding" (picking up litter + birding) according to birding expert, Ray Brown.

For our tournament, we will focus on fishing, voluntary release of the fish (you are allowed to keep legal fish but it will affect the scoring), and picking up litter. We will have some very unique prizes awarded in this Plishing Tournament. The overall points winner will split the pot with the other half donated to the South Carolina Wildlife Federation to help support their wildlife education programs. Prizes will also be awarded to the top scoring angler in each species category including the "other" and "trash" categories. Prizes include a Haddrell's Point Tackle gift card, a complimentary spot in the SCWF's Ladies Hike on 40 Acre Rock led by a super cool geologist, a 4 hour kayaking trip with Angling Women, sweet fishing gear, and more!

Target Species:

  • Any species found in SC waters
  • PLUS, at least one full bag of trash collected from the water, marsh, bank, or boat ramp

Schedule:

  • Captain's Meeting on Monday, January 31st (virtual)
  • Virtual Weigh-in/Check in each Monday
  • Tournament concludes on Monday, February 28th
  • Anglers can fish all day any day.
  • All meetings will be at 6:30 pm.

Scoring Guidelines:
For this event, there is no size component. Scores will be given based on quantity, if the fish was released, and trash collected. Scoring will be as follows:

  • 1 point per fish species caught and photographed
  • 1 additional point per fish that is released and swims away. You will have to upload a short video of the release for this to be counted!
  • 1 point for each full sized garbage bag of trash collected, photographed and disposed of properly
